At its core, this show is a celebration of girlhood: It’s a love letter to hair glitter and sleepovers, and it’s a raised eyebrow at the unrealistic wedding expectations I was peddled in my youth. I know a thing or two about being deemed “nubile;” I was sexualized and adultified for as long as I can remember. Over time, repeated experiences like this (and worse) robbed me of my girlishness and girlhood, which, as an adult, feels so…crushing. I feel similarly about my wedding—it was beautiful and sweet and I married someone I love very much, but I missed out on the girlhood of it all. My hope for this show is to embrace girlhood and laugh off hard wedding days (or even just wedding days that didn’t quite meet the mark); I know I’m not alone in these experiences and feelings, and I hope this show can offer some comfort to those who can relate.
